From 1 April 2018, private residential landlords with properties in the Canalside Ward of the Borough (parts of Maybury and Woking Town Centre) will require a license to operate.

Landlords of properties in the following area will be required to apply for a licence

The main categories of application fee are included below. 

Application type Fee Notes
Selective licence application made before 1 April 2018 No fee

Applies where a valid application is made online before 1 April 2018.

Maximum five year licence period.

Selective licence application made on or after 1 April 2018 for newly acquired properties No fee

Applies where property purchased by the applicant on or after 1 April 2018 and either:

  • a valid application is made online prior to occupation
  • where the property is purchased with sitting tenants a valid application is made within 28 days of the property purchase.

Change of ownership between family members or other relations do not qualify for fee exemption.

Maximum five year licence period.

Selective licence application on or after 1 April 2018

£560 Maximum one year licence period.
Selective licence application on or after 1 April 2018 - accredited landlords £200

Proposed licence holder is registered with Woking Private Landlord Accreditation Scheme or other recognised accreditation scheme (for example NLA, RLA or LLAS).

Maximum one year licence period.

Selective licence renewal application £420

Renewal of licence issued for less than five years.

New application (and fee) required if renewal application is not received before licence expires.

Maximum one year licence period.

Selective licence renewal application - accredited landlords £200

Licence holder is registered with Woking Private Landlord Accreditation Scheme or other recognised accreditation scheme (for example NLA, RLA or LLAS).

New application (and fee) required if renewal application is not received before licence expires.

Maximum one year licence period.
