Scottish Government Sets Up Review of Building Standards
Following the Independent Inquiry into the Construction of Edinburgh Schools (February 2017) (Cole Report) and the tragic events at Grenfell Tower earlier this year, Scottish Ministers have set up the Review Panel on Building Standards (Compliance and Enforcement) in Scotland.
The Panel will review the building standards system in Scotland in relation to compliance and enforcement and make any recommendations for improvement.
The Panel is being chaired by Professor John Cole and will report to the Scottish Government Ministerial Working Group on Building and Fire Safety chaired by Angela Constance, Cabinet Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities.
The Panel's first meeting is at the end of November. To inform the meeting the Panel is keen to seek views on the Scottish building standards system, which parts of the system do and don’t work well, what the priorities of the Panel should be and what changes should be made.
