Enfield Council to consult on additional and selective licensing
Enfield council has begun their consultation on additional and selective licensing which will close on 29 November 2019. The consultation document can be accessed here.
The additional licensing will be borough-wide and two selective licensing schemes will be covering 14 wards including Bowes, Chase, Edmonton Green, Enfield Highway, Enfield Lock, Haselbury, Jubilee, Lower Edmonton, Palmers Green, Ponders End, Southbury, Southgate Green, Turkey Street and Upper Edmonton.
The council’s justification for selective licensing indicates that their decision was informed by the high demand on council services resulting from a high proportion of private rented properties, anti-social behaviour, and deprivation and poor property condition.
The licensing fee structure has been split to reflect the precedence of case law. Selective licensing will cost landlords £600 with £260 for administrative costs and £340 to cover enforcement costs. Additional licensing will cost landlords £900, with £550 towards administrative costs while £350 will cover enforcement costs.
The council will be hosting separate public meetings for residents and tenants and landlords and agents on the dates and locations listed below:
