What is an Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST)?

The vast majority of tenancies today are Assured Shorthold Tenancies. These types of tenancies are governed by the Housing Act 1988 (as amended).

The main benefits of Assured Shorthold Tenancies are that landlords can set market rents and can recover possession so long as the correct notice is served.

Beware!  There are many incorrect AST's available and these could create problems for you if you need to recover possession of the property at a later date.
