Landlords switched off to digital TV

14 December 2009

Many landlords are still confused by the digital switchover and how it will affect their tenants, with a large number* admitting to being unprepared for the switchover.

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has joined forces with Sky to ensure landlords get the help they need with digital switchover, when analogue television signals are switched off in their region**. As the newest addition to the NLA Recognised Supplier Scheme, Sky will be available to give landlords support and advice on making sure their properties are ready for switchover, while also providing them with extra digital services.

As the digital switchover occurs across the UK, many landlords will need to consider their options if their property has shared communal viewing. Sky provides high-quality digital television reception systems for blocks of flats, which removes the need for individual mini dishes. This system also gives residents the option of accessing a range of television providers and additional services such as telephone and broadband.

Paul Berwick, Head of Marketing, NLA, said:

“Although the digital switchover has already begun, clearly many landlords are still in the dark about what they need to do. It is good to see Sky supporting landlords with the digital switchover and tailoring their products to provide specific services for them.

“We are pleased to welcome Sky to the NLA Recognised Supplier Scheme. Our landlords know they can trust the companies which make up the scheme, and that they will be provided with a competitive price and excellent service.”

*Sky’s survey into the digital switchover visited 129 blocks, each containing between 4 and 66 separate flats (a total of over 3,000 individual homes) www.sky.com/communaltv It found that 57% of privately owned flats were unprepared for switchover.

**Sky is also working with managing agents and residents associations to assist with digital switchover.
